Paper Money Values - Central African Republic
The Central African Republic was established in 1960 when the former French colony of French Equatorial Africa achieved its independence. The country was called the Central African Empire between 1965 and 1979 after a military coup led to a change in government, with the name Central African Republic being restored in 1979. As a member of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central African States (CEMAC), the county issued paper money denominated in CFA francs between 1974 and 1992. Beginning in 1993 Central African Republic banknotes have been issued with the same designs as the other CEMAC member states, distinguished only by a letter code appearing on the notes (listed separately under Central African States).
